About "The Ichthyology collection at the Staatliches Museum für Naturkunde Stuttgart"

 

 

The Collection

The ichthyological collection contains more than 1000 type specimens from ca. 450 nominal species. The number of specimens held in the collection is about 150,000. The collection has a clear geographical focus on Europe, with a large majority of specimens coming from Germany. The second geographical focus is South America, with Brazil and the Dominican Republic accounting for most of the specimens held in the collection.


Data Project and Service

The Ministry for Science, Research and the Arts in Baden-Württemberg supported inventory, digitalisation and online access of the collections. Technical support is provided by the IT Center of the Staatliche Naturwissenschaftliche Sammlungen Bayerns within the projects BiNHum (Biodiversity Network of the Humboldt-Ring) and GFBio (German Federation for the Curation of Biological Data), both funded by the German Research Foundation DFG.
